Inspiration of other Art; Practice, Study or Tributes

As an artist or aspiring artist it’s good to practice recreating other artists work. Learn to recreate detail and  a specific style will help anyone. There are so many artistic genres and periods so studying any or all types of art periods can make you a better artist with the ability to teach yourself or others by inspiration.

Learning a specific period can lead to many open styles from artists. For instance the Impressionism period had some big difference from Vincent Van Gogh to Edgar Degas to others whom made art varied in look. Many artists collaborate in a period and learning from artists with more experience makes you a better one.  Sharing the work and history of past artist and in history bridges everyone. Taking art classes when they are free in school can lead to scholarships in College or trade schools later.

ELEKTRA ASSASSIN art example by artist Bill SienkiewizcStages of Progression

1) First if you are new to recreation draw a grid on the print of your project. Like a copy of the original art.
2) Then match the grid lines on your blank drawing so you can copy with better proportion & scale to the original.
If you are more skilled at creation proportion; it can be done by comparison of major lines, details, etc.,
3) Tracing paper can be used when you are staring out with the original below the tracing paper.

Tip: Matching paper or media sizes from the original and the duplicate can be done to make a grid more accurate. Print out a 8.5 &11 of the original, then grid it. Grid the drawing to be drawing the same way before proceeding in the same dimensions.

#1 means foreground, #2 means a wash layer or background.

You can see below I did not use a grid and used a different medium. Bill S. in the series used pencil, ink, paint and some other mediums.

In my case I used my fingers for scale to compare major details, outlines, etc.,

These are later staages creating a mixed media recreation of Elektra Assassin. The final example is not a complete accurate reproduction, but rather close. I had to reduce the image size & detail for better browsing. Most important on any character recreation is the face and then the body proportion, then position.

I used ink, pencil, colored pencil, marker and some finishing details with soft pastel (oil). You can see how I can use lines, and measure details with my fingers or you can use rulers, grids etc., When you start out, you may use tracing paper for practice and, or grids. As you progress you should rely on your developing skill and talents instead of using  tracing paper.
