Sony FS700R Services in Colorado video camera crews with DOP/DP or videographer

Prefer shooting with AVCHD or XAVC or 4K? Mister Photon is there for you with the Sony FS700R or the FS7 cameras, among other cameras from Sony. We also can record up to 4k externally as well to other formats such as ProRes or DNxHD. We also have the ability to capture raw video straight from the cameras sensor to our Atomos Samurai Flame recorder to either DNxHD or QuickTime ProRes enabling our clients the best possible, and easiest to work with video footage, allowing them immediate editing.

Aside from our FS700R or FS7 video services, Our camera formats are diverse from AVC-HD (AVCHD or AVCAM), XDCAM HD or SD, DSLR, DVCPRO HD, P2, HDV, RED, HDCAM, GoPro, QuickTime 422 in variable bit rates including ProRes, Avid DNxHD and standard definition video camera packages are also available. If you would like to learn about al of our camera formats, please visit our gear page. If you need a well equipped DP/DOP (director of photography) or an entire video crew with these cameras, we provide these services as well. These popular camera formats have a similar list of model nicknames; one for the Sony NEX FS700 (sometimes called the FS700, FS 700UK, FS 700U or FS700R) among other terms, with the model officially named the NEX FS700U or NEX FS700R). The other the PXW-FS7 is a XAVC HD format camera similar in design but larger. Both are 4k capable cameras, with FS7 recording internally 4K the other FS700U or R recording externally. The FS700R can output 4k with internal HD recording as AVCHD 1080 or 720 simultaneously. The FS700R model that we own has the 4K expansion, that the FS700U does not. We own the FS700R model that is an upgrade to the U version.

About the Sony NEX-FS700 camera; U or R

The camera has a 35mm sensor and an E mount lens system, and can also be adapted to other lens systems. Adapter mounts enable PL, DSLR and A Mount lenses that can be used, as well, B4 2/3 lenses. E-Mount or PL lenses work best or A DSLR lens with a fixed F-Stop on the camera in either EF or EFS lenses. The camera has depth of field similar to DSLR cameras, the Sony F3, the Panasonic AG AF100, RED, ARRI Alexa among other 35mm sensor cameras. EF mount Canon lens & MetaBones type adapters are ideal with this camera, especially preferred with a fixed f-stop or manual iris control being better, which also includes the FS7 as well.

The advantages of this camera include synced sound, external recording and internal recording to a Sony Flash recording or SDHC cards. You can also use the HDMI or HD-SDI to record with an external recorder like a Nanoflash, Sound Devices pix recorder or other recorders as well like Black Magic, Atomos, Convergent Design recorder, among others. The FS700R camera also has a 4K upgrade and also can output 4k video to external recorder by the HD SDI connection with embedded audio; this model being the FS700R having the 4k upgrade unlocked. The camera is larger than a DSLR and has more expanded capabilities, along with synced audio, that is highly desirable for editors. The camera's synced audio definitely beats the Drawbacks of DSLR and external audio recording, and has the audio synced to the video when using the cameras XLR inputs. The XLR inputs are the best method for inputting balanced, clean sounding audio into any camera or recording.

The camera has balanced XLR inputs, the best input method and most common for professional audio, and outputs video and audio via the HDMI or SDI ports as well. The camera is similar to the Panasonic AG AF100, and the F3, but when upgraded to 4k, (featured in the R model), the increased resolution makes the camera more desirable for motion picture production (2x the resolution over the AF100 or the F3). The camera has many built in anchor points for accessories and mounting to tripods, jibs, sliders, or camera rigs as well.

The camera shoots to AVCHD and also can output RAW and outputs up to 4K to an external recorder that can record additional formats simultaneously. This internal AVCHD format uses a type of H264 recording for the FS700 U or R. The camera can also record to Sony's dock able flash recorders in additional to other manufacturers recorders. The camera also has an advantage of built in high speed recording / over cranking function as well that creates slow motion effects.

High Speed Overcranking up to 240 fps in 1080, burst up to 960

These cameras have the higher frame rates over XDCAM when over cranking. The high speed recording is better than the F3, and PDW or PMW series XDCAM cameras as you can record full 1080p at 240 frames per second, compared to the XDCAM limited to 30 or 60p with F3, EX3, or EX1 or PDW F330, 350, 700 or F800. You can also record up to 960 frames per second (FPS) in burst mode.

About the Sony PXW-FS7 camera

The camera also has a 35mm sensor and an E mount lens system that can be adapted to Canon or Nikon Mount EF or EFS lenses, or PL lenses. Adapter mounts enable PL, DSLR and A Mount lenses to be used, as well, B4 2/3 lenses, just like the FS700 camera. Most all the other specifications are similar on the AVCHD format, but the camera also shoots a XAVC HD codec as well as a MPEG 720 or 1080 recording capability.

The XAVC Codec requires newer non linear editing software to open and edit as well natively, as it is a newer video codec than AVCHD. The FS7 camera has a similar body style to the FS700U but the viewfinder is in a different location to the side of the camera among some other differences.

You can also over-crank with this camera like the Sony FS700. Overcranking is recording at a higher frame rate that creates a slow motion effect, and is more pronounced at more frames recorded per second.

The menu structure and camera command functions are also similar to the FS700U camera as well. But the key difference is the FS700R outputs 4K, and the FS7 records it internally, and can output 4K as well.

Additional Gear and Other Cameras are Available

GEAR! - Aside these cameras our camera inventory is amply equipped with other cameras, lighting in HMI, fluorescent, tungsten, chimeras, professional tripods, monitors, Matthews grip, expansive sound packages with top audio gear, among other items rounded out with decades of professional production experience spanning video, film as well all types of television productions. Why shoot with the Sony FS700 camera or FS7?

The future 4k upgrade of these cameras, the lenses available, and high speed recording are great, along with synced audio, depth of field and higher ISO with less noise make these cameras very appealing. You can also view the AVC HD files with many computers and play back from the camera for clients on the spot, as well 4K files can be played with the right resources.

Why for Cinema Production, Films or Documentary ? If your looking for the film look, done faster than shooting 16mm or 35mm film, and have to adapt quickly to shots, as opposed to modifying for shots restricted by film stock, lighting conditions, magazine length, etc - then the FS700 or FS7 is an ideal camera. Separate time code from audio or separate audio from picture is common to DSLR or motion picture film with many DSLR cameras is another issue. DSLR cameras without time code or synced audio can increase editing time increasing your production costs.

Who Else For? Any adaptable camera person or crew can use these cameras and hand of footage to any client with acquired or we can do this. The digital video files can be opened with ease in Windows, Unix & Mac operating systems, and can also be sent over networks without file data corruption or loss of functionality over multiple operating systems. For AVCHD common editing applications include Sony Vegas, Corel Studio, Windows Movie Maker, Final Cut X & Pro, Avid, and Adobe Premiere or After Effects or Creative Cloud; all able to edit and manage the footage. For XAVC I or L used in the Sony FS7 later versions of AVID, Adobe CC or Final Cut X are needed and recommended for efficiency.
