A storyboard artist often has several nicknames that include:

There are several methods to storyboarding, making storyboards.
- Drawing the storyboard with pencil, ink, pastel, chalk or similar artistic medium.
- Painting storyboard art with watercolor, tempura, acrylic or oil paints.
- Digital creation using software and computer hardware.
- Illustration by digital application or by traditional media techniques.
- Collage using paper, photographs, drawings, paintings or other media combined together.
- Combining these methods together.
